Rita is currently the Family Life Coordinator at the East Harlem agency and supervisor to two LSA Volunteers. As a regular part of her duties she manages the Neighborhood Mother's Support Groups, the ESL, Parenting, and Arts and Crafts classes, the local gardening program, and youth activities. In her spare time she enjoys tennis, line dancing, and Mexican cooking. She has also recently started her own HIV support group as well as "The New Friends Committee"--a group which gives young professionals in their 20s and 30s an opportunity to take part in fun, social activities which help sponsor the Family Life Program while at the same time getting to know the agency and one another. Next up: a wine-tasting party to be held on October 6th.

A graduate of Holy Cross, Rita majored in Psychology with a concentration in music. Upon graduation she spent a year with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps in Texas working with refugees before receiving her MSW from Columbia. Currently she and her husband live in Brooklyn.

So for her commitment to the people of East Harlem, the Little Sisters of the Assumption Family Health Service, and the LSA Volunteers, Rita gets our Gold Star of the week!
